Get Rid of the Odor — Not Just Cover It Up

Pet accidents happen. What you see or smell at the surface may only be part of the problem.

Just A Note Cleaning provides professional pet urine treatment and odor removal for carpet, upholstered furniture, and mattresses throughout Jackson County, Oregon. We inspect the affected material, determine the extent of the contamination, and recommend the level of treatment that fits the situation.

Our goal is simple: remove unwanted contamination and odor-causing residue from the surfaces your family walks on, sits on, and sleeps on.

LOOK BEYOND THE SURFACE

The Spot You See May Be Only the Tip of the Iceberg

The spot you see is not the whole problem. As urine moves down into the material, it spreads outward into backing and pad, cushions, mattress layers, or flooring underneath.

That’s why addressing only the surface doesn’t always solve the odor issue.

When needed, we use UV blacklight and subsurface probing to locate the contamination and understand the extent of the deposit, so treatment matches the actual spread, not just what’s visible.

What you see Wider spread below

The visible spot may be the smallest part while contamination spreads outward underneath.

WHY ODOR CAN SEEM TO COME BACK

An Area May Smell Fine While Dry Even Though Contamination Remains

Older urine deposits can stop smelling once fully dry, even though residue remains. Humidity or cleaning moisture can rehydrate that residue and make the existing odor noticeable again.

That means a carpet may smell fine while dry, yet still hold contamination below the surface.

Cleaning Doesn’t Create the Problem. It Can Reveal What’s Already There.

This is why proper inspection and choosing the right treatment level matters.

THREE LEVELS OF TREATMENT

The Right Treatment Depends on the Extent of the Deposit

Not every pet accident needs the same approach. The amount deposited, size of the animal, and whether it was a one-time or repeated accident all affect how far it spreads.

Light / Surface Deposit

For a known accident or localized deposit primarily at the surface; treatment breaks down urine residue and neutralizes odor-causing compounds before the problem becomes more extensive.

Moderate / Subsurface Deposit

For contamination spread beyond the surface into carpet backing/pad, upholstery cushions, or mattress materials; treatment reaches affected materials rather than only what is visible.

Heavy / Saturation Deposit

For repeated or severe contamination spread extensively through carpet/pad and possibly flooring; may require pulling back carpet, replacing pad, treating/sealing floor or subfloor, and reinstalling carpet.

CARPET, FURNITURE & MATTRESSES

Pet Accidents Don’t Just Happen on Carpet

We can evaluate and treat urine contamination in carpet and pad, household upholstered furniture like sofas, sectionals, recliners, and mattresses.

Some other household odor concerns can be looked at case by case.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM AN INSPECTION

What to Expect From an Inspection

We start with your observations — where accidents are known or suspected, whether odor comes and goes or is tied to humidity or recent cleaning.

We typically use black light to help identify potential locations, then use subsurface moisture probing to determine whether contamination is present and understand its extent.

Then we recommend the appropriate treatment scope.

The purpose is to diagnose.

ODOR REMOVAL VS. STAIN REMOVAL

Odor Removal and Color Repair Are Not the Same Thing

Treating contamination and odor doesn’t always restore permanent color change. Urine can alter carpet dye over time, leaving yellowing, bleaching, or discoloration even after the odor and contamination are gone.

Persistent discoloration doesn’t necessarily mean treatment failed.

When the Odor and Contamination Are Gone but the Color Is Still Wrong

If color is the remaining issue, Just To Dye For — our sister company — can evaluate for professional color repair where appropriate.

First treat the contamination, then address color if needed.

OUR ODOR GUARANTEE

Our Odor Guarantee

When the recommended treatment is performed, we guarantee removal of the existing pet urine odor that was treated.

The guarantee applies to conditions present at the time of service. It doesn’t cover new or repeated contamination after treatment, including pets returning to mark the same area.

We’ll point out factors that could lead to new contamination.

This guarantee is about odor removal. Stains or permanent color change are separate.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Pet Odor Removal FAQs

Can you guarantee you’ll remove pet odor?

When the recommended treatment is performed, we guarantee removal of the existing odor that was treated. It doesn’t cover new or repeated contamination after service.

Why does urine smell show up after cleaning?

Moisture can rehydrate dried residue and make existing contamination noticeable again. Cleaning didn’t create the problem.

Can you find spots I can’t see?

We typically use black light to help identify potential locations, then use subsurface moisture probing to determine whether contamination is present and understand its extent.

Does every urine spot need deeper treatment?

No. The amount deposited, size of the animal, and whether it was a one-time or repeated accident all affect how far it spreads. A small, isolated deposit may remain closer to the surface, while larger or repeated deposits are more likely to reach underlying materials. That’s why we inspect and match treatment to the extent.

Can you treat urine in a couch or mattress?

Yes, we evaluate household upholstered furniture and mattresses. If contamination has spread below the surface, we may use specialized techniques to reach the affected material.

What if the urine has soaked through the carpet pad?

For heavy contamination, we may recommend addressing the pad and subfloor rather than repeatedly treating the surface.

Will urine stains disappear when the odor is removed?

Not always. Odor and contamination can be resolved while discoloration remains. If color is the main concern after treatment, our sister company Just To Dye For can evaluate for professional color repair.

Do you treat other household odors?

Many organic odor sources, such as food or beverage spills like milk, can often be successfully treated.
